Enjoy this synopsis of what's to come this Friday, February 6 at 7pm, First Baptist Church of Columbia!
This year's Baroque concert is PACKED with delightful sounds unmistakably characteristic of the early classical period. We also offer Bach's Cantata with a twist: This one is without a choir (!). Experience the genius of J.S. Bach as he explores this traditional form in a very intimate setting of 8 musicians. It is a subtle yet uplifting experience you will remember for many years.
"Baroque Classics" lead by maestro Kirk Trevor begins at 7pm next Friday on February 6, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Columbia, 1112 E Broadway. EARLY ARRIVAL IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED as this is one of our most popular events of the season! Doors open at 6:20pm. Tickets are available for purchase at the door: $20 General / $10 Student with I.D. / FREE for Children Under 12.
While we live in a community that greatly appreciates all local talents (Thank you, Mid-Missouri!!), it is still wonderful to receive raving acknowledgements from out of town, as seen in a recent Fanfare magazine. Please take a moment to read this article. It is not every day that you come across someone who actively performs as much as Dr. Peter Miyamoto, while maintaining a successful studio as a university professor.
You see, his former protege, pianist Hyunki Yoon - who is currently pursuing DMA at University of Missouri-Kansas City - ALSO won top prizes (plural) in the same competition in different categories. This is only one of many testaments to Peter's tremendous dedication of the highest quality, both as a teacher and as a musician.

A piano master and mastering MU's Choral Union Next Tuesday, October 14 at 6:30 on KBIA's Thinking Out Loud
What's going on in the local classical music performance scene? (Answer: Lots.) Join us next Tuesday for KBIA's Thinking Out Loud when we look at and listen to some of what's going on with local players.
Paul Crabb conducts the MU Choral Union 11/20 in Verdi's Requiem. Hear excerpts and conversation next Tuesday, October 14 at 6:30 on
Thinking Out Loud.
That includes an interview with MU School of Music faculty member and concert pianist Peter Miyamoto. He recently placed in the running for The American Prize. Next Tuesday evening on KBIA, the pianist discusses his influences and shares some advice for beginning students. Then on the program, Paul Crabb shares what it is about Verdi's Requiem that gets over 200 Columbians to meet every Thursday this fall to rehearse the choral masterpiece. MU's Choral Union performs that work November 20 at Columbia's Battle High. We'll also hear some of the preparations for that epic performance on next Tuesday's show.
