In two weeks, pianist Sergei Babayan will begin his 5-day residency in Columbia. I cannot begin to express my overwhelming joy and tremendous fear of having the honor and responsibility of hosting this great artist. I spent my collegiate years hearing and seeing "The Incredible Babayan" on all the major music publications because he had just won most of the top prizes of multiple international piano competitions. When I finally had a chance to hear him live in Serbia - it was one of the most memorable, exuberant and mesmerizing musical experience. Trust me when I say we're bringing the Carnegie Hall to Columbia, because that's exactly the kind of excitement and quality you can expect on March 19, Thursday at 7pm. Steinway D will be brought from Schmitt Music in Kansas City, and Sergei Babayan will open the 7th Plowman Competition & Festival with his solo piano recital. I hope you have your tickets ordered, because they are going FAST. Early arrival is highly recommended; we will open the doors at 6pm. Mr. Babayan's appearances both in a recital and piano master class (3/20, Friday 12-2pm at MU School of Music) are generously sponsored by the MU Chancellor's Distinguished Visitor's Program and MMAMTA.
